I am a visual person, so I like to see ideas, whenever possible. To that end, I have created these diagrams that might help you know a bit more about my aspirations.
I’ve been asked what issues I am running on. I am reluctant to identify issues as if I alone, as mayor, could make those promises. Politicians often do this, and forget about them as soon as they are elected. And we are governed not just by the mayor but by a talented staff of paid professionals who have been educated in City Administration best practices.
What you see here is an image that shows how I believe a community works, and constituents’ role in this. We identify a Northstar (in this case our City of Hudson 2040 Comprehensive Plan), and we work toward that together. It takes everyone. (These are the colorful circles you see around the outside of our plan…which leadership skills could you bring to the table?)
The second image helps identify ways that I hope to help our city continue to move toward the Comprehensive plan goals. In particular I would like to focus on Affordable Housing solutions, Environmental Resilience, Leveraging existing assets and an equitable, inclusive community. (But I think you’ll recognize that each focus of our comprehensive plan is inextricably woven into the others!)
I give credit to the current city leadership, but I also recognize that the Comprehensive Plan (created by residents in a careful, professional process) may not be the Northstar that is at the center of their current focus. Nor are all of the strengths in our community employed, and when that happens, we all miss out. I hope to bring the focus back to the comprehensive plan and invite all of you in, to help change that dynamic, plain and simple.
